It may not be easy, but we know you can do it.\r\n<h3>Step 1: Choose locally appropriate marketing &amp;\u00a0sales channels<\/h3>\r\nHas one of your salespeople told you \u201cThe local market isn\u2019t responding to the product,\u201d sending you into a flurry of trying to figure out what features you might add to make it a success? Or, have you heard from your sales team that \u201cThe sales cycle is twice as long in this country\u201d?\r\n\r\nThese may be accurate reports, or they may be excuses for poor performance. It\u2019s hard to tell since the product is unproven in the new market and the right sales channels aren\u2019t always clear. Early on in your marketing efforts, it\u2019s helpful to focus on channels that are easy to measure, easy to manage digitally and easy to scale, such as:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Social media<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Online advertising<\/li>\r\n \t<li>SEO<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nAlso, contact local influencers like bloggers or public personalities and ask for their endorsements via links and social media.\r\n<h3>Step 2: Translate and iterate<\/h3>\r\nTranslation does not equal market entry (although we wish it did!). Just because you\u2019ve translated your site, app description or app, doesn\u2019t mean your target foreign market will automatically find you. You\u2019ve still got to hustle like a startup. Here\u2019s how to ramp up your translated offerings to help you effectively enter that target market.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Create a simple landing page in the foreign language<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Test that page\u2019s performance and iterate based on results<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Try local AdWords on a small scale to test the waters<\/li>\r\n \t<li>For apps, try localizing a simple translated version of it in the local app store<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<h3>Step 3: Tune into the conversation<\/h3>\r\nTranslating user-generated content is one of the best ways to show your new market that you hear them and you understand what they want. Start by translating:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>User reviews<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Facebook messages<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Tweets<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Any other user-generated content<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThis content has just as much power as your own content, if not more. According to <a href=\"\/\">Nielsen\u2019s 2011 Global Trust in Advertising report<\/a>, 70% of the 28,000 respondents in 56 countries revealed that they trust online customer reviews.\r\n\r\nMarketers know that social proof sells, so the more people who are talking about you, the more you\u2019ll sell. Starting out, you may not have user-generated content from your new market, which is why translating what you do have is so important. There\u2019s no reason why you can\u2019t reuse material across markets!\r\n\r\nWhile the goal should be to provide translations in real-time\u2014user comments should be translated as soon as appearing\u2014this is impossible for traditional translation agencies. The volume of content is too high, too fast and too dynamic.
